– What was John Paul II interested in in his spare time? In addition to reading books, did he watch movies, for example?
– There was not much free time, but in the summer residence John Paul II watched religious films, for example, “The Life of the Lord Jesus”, films about St. Francis, St. Rita. What else interested him? For example, he was interested in lectures provided by scientists, philosophers, people of literature who came to Castel Gandolfo. He was interested in every area of life. And, when he was already sick and suffering, Archbishop Dziwisz suggested, “Maybe the Holy Father would not go to lectures in the afternoon?” The symposium took a long time, and later the Holy Father did not give up anything that was in his plan, that is, prayers and readings. And, there was not enough time for a normal night’s sleep. But, the Pope replied: “There is nothing that will make me tired. I just listen and it does not cost me anything, and I get so much knowledge in return.” This knowledge made it very easy for him to get in touch with representatives of various fields – culture, sport. He did not experience, like some, that he would not know what to say. He knew the most important current issues; he was able to establish a dialogue with everyone.
