There was a spiritual thread of understanding

Between Mother Teresa and Karol Wojtyła there was a deep bond.  Despite the different paths of formation, both were people of contemplative nature.  It was thanks to the mystical dimension of their souls that they became involved in charitable, social, apostolic activities.  Mother Teresa reached the lowland of Calcutta to devote herself to lepers and dying people.  Karol Wojtyła survived the war and oppression of two totalitarian systems.  Their paths intertwined by giving an example of one’s own life to the highest value to each person, even if they were in the last place in the social hierarchy.

Both used the witness-specific language of gestures – strong gestures, courageous gestures, unequivocally perceived by modern people, even if they are not Christians, even if they are not believers.

There was a spiritual thread of understanding between them that was proper to those who love God with absolute love.  It allowed for a deep friendship and mutual understanding.  They didn’t have to say much, they read their thoughts immediately.  They met in the early 1970s, and this acquaintance became strong when Karol Wojtyła became Pope.  Mother Teresa always informed me about her stay in Rome and she always visited the Holy Father.  She told him about the development of the Community of Missionaries of Charity, about new homes that she managed to open in countries not available to the Catholic Church, such as Russia.
