“A beautiful idea, just like beautiful and profound is the meaning of this feast. It teaches us that WE ALL SHOULD GIVE OURSELVES TO GOD. WE LIVE TO BE A GIFT TO HIM. And, the best indicator of this is the truth that He is a gift to us. “He gives himself to us…” – so we sing – not only do we sing, but we participate in this event whenever we accept the Lord Jesus. He gives himself to us; we too, should give ourselves as a gift to Him. This is what, first of all teaches us today’s celebration. But more can be said, it teaches us how a man can become a gift to the Lord God, what is the method of giving ourselves to the Lord. Today’s feast teaches us this and it is enough if we will think deeply what the word “praesentare” means – that is to present, so it is presented in Polish Missal.
Well, in order to give ourselves to the Lord more and more, we have to do everything, all our life, what we do, who we are, to continue to present to Him. We can’t hide everything from Him. “Present” – that is, to be guided with trust like towards the Father, bringing everything to Him “All – as we sing – all our daily matters”, our all day-to-day affairs. To be in front of Our Lord, so open that He could read us”
Karol Wojtyła – Homily delivered during the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Day, November 21, 1969.
