Yesterday’s day in the Roman Church was particularly devoted to prayer and fasting in the intention of Italy and the entire world in the face of the corona pandemic. A holy Mass celebrated by the Vicar of the Holy Father for the Diocese of Rome, Cardinal Angelo De Donatisa was the culmination point of that day. The Mass was celebrated in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Love. Due to the security reasons, the Mass was celebrated without the participation of the faithful and it was broadcast on television. The Mass was preceded by the Pope’s message, in which he entrusted the world to the intercession of Our Lady.
Pope Francis:
“Mary, You always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to You, Health of the sick, to You who, under the cross, accompanied Jesus’ suffering with unshakable faith. You, the Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need, and we are certain that you will take care that, as in Cana of Galilee, joy and celebration can return, after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of God’s Love, cling to the will of the Father and do what Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings, will tell us and will lead us, through the cross to the joy of resurrection. Amen.”
“We fly to Your patronage, the Holy Mother of God. Despise not our petitions which we direct in the time of the trial, but deliver us from all danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.”
In his homily, Cardinal De Donatis referred to the current time of the struggle with the coronavirus. He pointed out that on the one hand, it is possible to notice the attitude of great faith in people, and on the other hand, there is anxiety on the faces of many people. Jesus himself also experienced it, in the face of His torment. The words he uttered at the time: “I entrust my spirit to Your hands” remind us that no one and nothing can snatch us from God’s hands, even death. He stated that the most important thing at the time of the coronavirus is to stand in front of God, who lives in us. He will preserve mankind, unite us with each other.
