POLONIA IN ROME, HEARTFELT UNITY WITH UKRAINE

On the initiative of the John Paul II Foundation and the Poland in the Heart Association, the X edition of the Wolf’s Trail Run, was held for the first time also in Rome, at the Polish House at Via Cassia 1200.

The event, which took place on March 6, 2022, began with a solemn Holy Mass in the intention of the Homeland and peace in the world.  The Holy Mass was celebrated by the Administrator of the John Paul II Foundation, Father Dr. Krzysztof Wieliczko.  In addition to the numerous faithful who gathered for the Mass, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Holy See, Mr. Janusz Kotański, and the Head of the Consular Department of the Polish Embassy in Rome, Mrs. Agata Ibek – Wojtasik, also honored with their presence.  A great joy brought the participation of children and youth from Polish Schools.

After the Holy Mass, there was a patriotic verbal and musical program performed by Roman, Polish diaspora artists and school youth.

Then, the Wolf Trail Run took place.  Polonia in Rome ran a symbolic 1963 meters in tribute to the steadfast soldiers.  The run, which is traditionally a patriotic memory, turned into a spontaneous manifestation of solidarity with Ukraine and a cry for peace in the world.

From March 2, numerous and generous gifts were sent to the Polish Home at Via Cassia 1200 for all those who were forced to flee immediately by the war in Ukraine.  On Monday, March 7 this year, all the gifts were transferred to the Basilica of Santa Sofia in Rome – the seat of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church from where they will be transferred to Poland in the hands of those in need.  Once again, the Poles in Rome showed their good-naturedness.

To all people of good will cordial: “God bless”

Aleksander Nowak President of the Poland in the Heart Association
