Meeting at the Polish Parliament

It was an important meeting; important for politicians, important for Poles.  The Holy Father took it very emotionally.  He was there for the first time.  He knew he had to wag the finger at politicians as many stopped listening; they stopped understanding what is the most important.  He, therefore, reminded of the responsibilities of conscience, of what a person of public service should be guided by, what values he should defend.  He talked about democracy without values and camouflaged totalitarianism.  I remember that he was touched because he had previously dedicated a monument to the National Army.  He even mentioned it in his speech.  The heroism of that struggle for freedom had for him the highest historical, social, human value.  It hurt him that Polish politicians underestimated this value; they did not know how to use the gift of freedom.
