On January 24, 2020 a group of members and friends of the John Paul II Foundation New Jersey Chapter along with its president Mieczyslaw Boksz set out to attend 47th March For Life.
Every year, we attend the March as our Founder -St. John Paul II was a staunch defender of human life from the conception until natural death. In multiple writings and speeches St. John Paul II talked about the dignity of every human being and he is remembered as “a great lover of life and defender” of the unborn. He was not afraid to criticize abortion procedures and to point out that such procedure is nothing less but killing the unborn in the womb of the mother.
This peaceful rally – March for Life – takes place at the end of January in Washington, DC on the anniversary of infamous United States Supreme Court decision Roe vs Wade legalizing abortion in the whole country. Many people of good will want to have an impact and they are attending those rallies every year and each time the March for Life gets stronger.
This year was very special as there was anticipation that for the first time in the history, the United States President will be attending the rally and say a few words.
People were waiting and indeed they weren’t disappointed. President Donald Trump was speaking right at the beginning of the rally where a huge crowd gathered and carefully listened to his speech. President Donald Trump was assuring everyone that: “The unborn have never had a stronger defender in the White House” and that he would have vetoed any legislation that was undermining the rights of the unborn. The crowd was energetic and jubilant only interrupting his speech by cheering and clapping. In his speech, President Donald Trump contrasted with many of his opponents from the Democratic Party. In particular, he mentioned current governor of Virginia, who is not only a supporter of late term abortion, but even advocated for killing a child who would have survived an abortion. At the end of his speech people were chanting “Four more years” and “USA… USA…” to express their solidarity with the President. After President Trump many politicians supportive of the Right to Life movement delivered their speeches.
Our group – the New Jersey Chapter of John Paul II Foundation was walking in the March carrying a big yellow banner with an image of St. John Paul II. Many fellow participants of the March for Life took pictures with us and expressed their devotion to St. John Paul II. During the rally, one of the TV stations was eager to learn more about our group and reasons for our participation in this annual March for Life.
The March for Life ends at the steps of the Supreme Court where people are giving their testimonies, many times with tears they share their tragic stories.
Since 1973, every year a lot of people are gathering in Washington DC and participating in the March for Life hoping that one day, hopefully soon, they will meet in Washington DC to celebrate life.
