JUBILEE OF THE KUL CHOIR

On Saturday, November 20, 2021, celebrations related to the 100th anniversary of the Academic Choir of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin took place.  At 12.30 p.m., a thanksgiving Mass was celebrated in the academic church, presided over by Rev. Prof. Mirosław Sitarz, Vice-Rector for Mission and Administration of the Catholic University of Lublin.

Then, in the Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński Hall, there was a ceremony of awarding numerous awards, medals and badges in connection with the jubilee and a solemn concert of the KUL Choir together with the Orchestra of the Crown Tribunal in Lublin.  Among the winners were, among others, Professor Grzegorz Pecka, conductor and artistic director of the KUL Choir, Zdzisław Cieszkowski, President of the KUL Choir and Tatsiana Ivashkevich, PhD student of musicology at the Catholic University of Lublin and scholarship recipient of the John Paul II Foundation. The Foundation Home in Lublin was represented by Fr. Jan Strzałka and Fr Robert Ptak.

Currently, about 50 people belong to the choral ensemble, mainly students of the Catholic University of Lublin, and among them 10 scholarship recipients of the John Paul II Foundation. The choir promotes Polish religious creativity and musical culture through contemporary premieres and studio recordings of forgotten works of old composers of Polish church music. Every year, the choir performs several dozen concerts at the university, in Lublin, in Poland and abroad.
