On May 18, 2020, on the initiative of the John Paul II Foundation French Chapter a holy Mass was celebrated in the Notre Dame de l’Assomption Church in Paris on the occasion of the centennial birthday of Karol Wotyła. The holy Mass was celebrated by the Rector of the Polish Catholic Mission, Fr. Bogdan Brzyś along with Fr. Paweł Witkowski. Bronisław Zieliński assisted during the Mass.
Sister Honorata Majewska and sister Ewa Mazur performed songs that John Paul II especially loved: “Barge” and “Black Madonna” in homage of the Holy Black Virgin of Czestochowa.
The Spirit of our Pope was among us thanks to the relics and the portrait of our beloved Shepherd near the altar. The portrait brought John Paul II closer to us as if he was among us.
A lot of members of our Foundation were able to see the holy Mass on YouTube and follow the Mass more easily as Father Brzys spoke in Polish and in French as well. It was very helpful; thank you Fr. Brzys. During the Mass, a famous sentence written by the Polish Pope: “Truth will make us free” was presented, while he ended the ceremony by saying: “John Paul II’s life is a gift of God”.
Thank you for this moving ceremony: we could gather together and pray together for our great Pope, Saint John Paul II.
