He still accompanies us, inspires us, shows the way and direction

The legacy of John Paul II is a gift to us, but at the same time a task.  That is, it is a gift that already today can bear abundant fruits, but it is also a gift that we should pass on to future generations.  Guided by this conviction, we are building in Krakow the John Paul II Center “Do not be afraid!”

This is the just, genuine monument that should be built for Pope Wojtyła!

We want to preserve and creatively develop the Pope’s teaching, to propose his style of service to the Church and to the world in a spirit of dialogue, openness to culture, sensitivity to social problems.  John Paul II’s teaching does not lose its relevance.  It can inspire ourselves and future generations to face the new challenges we face in the Church and in the world.

That is why I see my role as curator of the memory of John Paul II.  This memory, as I said earlier, we cannot limit it to a museum.  John Paul II did not just go down in history. He – and I imagine him next to Pope Francis – still accompanies us, inspires us, shows the way and direction.
