– He always was fasting on Fridays. He didn’t eat meat at the time. The Pope also fasted during the Easter period – from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, and not only, as it is accepted, on Good Friday.
– You have previously stated that you were amazed by the Pope’s diligence.
– It manifested itself, for example, in the maximum use of time. I remember in the first year of my work we moved in the summer months to Castel Gandolfo – a summer residence. One day, in the afternoon, a hairdresser arrived. An elderly gentleman who had already met previous Popes: Paul VI and John Paul I. We sat in the recreation area of the palace. In the hallway was prepared an armchair, scissors and that is where the haircut took place. To my surprise, the Holy Father held a book and read it during the haircut. Later, when the disease was progressing, he asked me or sister Eufrozyna to read the selected reading.
