Five long years of suffering

– I will return to the story of Archbishop Konrad Krajewski.  He said: “At the end of the pontificate, the Pope was suffering.  We can say that we have been dying since the year 2000.  In 2000, we prayed that the Holy Father would open the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica because he was already so weak.  It seemed to us that then it will be God’s will, and he lived another five years.  Five long years of suffering.”  When did the priest realize that the Holy Father’s health was in really bad condition?  That something bad is going on?

– In a private chapel, during the holy Mass in 2002.  One day, before the elevation of the Host at that Mass, the Holy Father turned to Fr. Stanislaus.  He said: “Tobiana.”  “Excuse me?” – Fr. Dziwisz asked.  “Tobiana” – the Pope repeated.  Fr. Stanislaus went for sister Tobiana.  She came very quickly.  “What is the intention today?”  – the Pope asked.  Sister Tobiana ran to get the calendar in which she wrote down the intentions.  In a moment, she returned and informed the Holy Father of the intention is which the Mass was celebrated.

– It can happen to anyone to forget about something.

– I thought so, too.  But after a few days, the same thing happened again.  And the next day, the Holy Father again asked sister Tobiana to come and remind him the intention of the holy Mass.  From that moment, on the altar we put down a piece of paper with the intention of the Mass.

Of course, difficulties also happened before the year 2002.  But, the Pope’s health could change from hour to hour.
