36 years ago, on March 26, 1884, Emilia Kaczorowski maiden name: Wojtyła, mother of Pope John Paul II, was born in Kraków. As the Pope mentions in the book “Gift and Mystery”: “I lost my mother before the First Communion , at the age of 9, and that is why I remember her less and am less aware of her contribution to my religious education, and certainly it was very large.”
Emilia was born as the fifth of the thirteen children of Felix and Mary (maiden name: Scholz) Kaczorowski. On February 10, 1906, she married Karol Wojtyła in the St. Peter and Paul Church. Later that year, their first son, Edmund, was born. After the wedding, she took care of the house, and casually she did some tailoring. She died on April 13, 1929 in Wadowice. In the death certificate myocarditis and renal failure are provided as the cause of death. It rests on the Rakowice Cemetery in Krakow.
On March 11, 2020, Archbishop of Kraków, Marek Jędraszewski, announced the decision to open canonization processes of John Paul II’s parents.
