A real explosion of joy

From all Easter days in the Vatican, the most Polish was Sunday.  The sisters were preparing a festive breakfast, recalls Archbishop Mokrzycki. – Cold cuts, eggs, cheese, there was a Mazurek cake and Easter baby.  And colomba cake was there.  It is traditional Italian Easter dove bread; sweeter than our Polish dove breads.  As he says, the sisters have been baking quite a lot.  But also, a lot of baked goods were coming from Poland.  There were lambs made from the dough.  Poppy seeds cakes were coming, peanut cake – mentions the Archbishop.  The Holy Father liked these sweets very much.  He remembered them from the old years, because it was all from friends, from Krakow and from other parts of Poland.  In the morning there was no Mass.  The Mass was after breakfast, in the Basilica of St. Peter.  And, then the Easter message with the blessing of Urbi et Orbi.  The Archbishop mentions that after the full of meditations and prayers Lent, the Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord was a real explosion of joy in the Papal apartments.  And spring.  The sisters put flowers everywhere – he says.   There were almost no flowers during Lent.  And now everywhere – a lot of narcissists, tulips.  It was very fresh, spring. Beautifully.
