Karol Wojtyla changed the world for the better. I saw the same feeling in the eyes of people all over the globe. And, yet he had only two hands and his faith. However, he made it clear that what was happening around him was not his work, but God’s own work. I still remember his words on the way to Georgia, on the tenth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall: “It was God himself who contributed to the fall of the Berlin Wall”. How could one man have changed the world to such an extent as it happened wherever Karol Wojtyla appeared? Maybe he was right, maybe God was actually working through him? Or have I also convinced myself of the warmth emanating in his presence, which so many have experienced?
– Listen, what is this feeling? – I once asked my friend, priest Jarosław Cielecki, a priest from the Papal retinue.
He replied with conviction:
– This experience can be easily explained. The Pope loves you; he loves all people, even those who are indifferent to him and even those who hate him. The more time I spent near Karol Wojtyla, the more often I asked myself whether something special was really happening in this man’s environment, something supernatural, or whether I was dealing with a product of my own imagination. Every time I met him, this wish appeared: “God bless you.”
