In his presence, extraordinary things happened. I remember that one morning – and it was Wednesday, the day of the General Audience – a terrible rain was pouring. I brought a basket of vegetables to the Pope’s apartment, and then I went to the terrace to work. At some point, however, it rained so hard that I had to hide under the roof close to the elevator and wait; otherwise I would be all wet. Suddenly, I hear that the elevator is going up, the door opens and the Holy Father himself comes out. He stood in the doorway – I was maybe a meter and a half away from him – he realized that it was raining heavily, and he said to me: “Oh dear, not good… I’m sorry, because so many people are already standing in the square, they will get wet to the dry thread in this audience!” And I told him: “Holy Father, there is nothing to worry about, around nine, nine thirty, when the time for the papamobile to leave for St. Peter’s Square is approaching, it will stop pouring and the sun will come out.” He did not believe me, but it really happened. And then, and always, every time! As if the sky was playing such pranks on purpose. When the Pope was about to leave for the square, the sun came out from behind the darkest clouds.
