SAINTS CYRIL AND METHODIUS – OUR CHRISTIAN ROOTS

On February 14th, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of the Patrons of Europe, St. Cyril, monk and St. Methodius, Bishop.  The Holy Brothers from Thessalonica (Greece), living in the ninth century, are also patrons of the chapel of the John Paul II Foundation Home in Lublin.  On this day, at 7 p.m., a Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Dr. Filip Krauze, Director of the Board of the Friends of the Catholic University of Lublin and Plenipotentiary of the Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin for International Contacts and Cooperation with Catholic Universities.  Among the invited guests was Fr. Józef Golonka, Superior of the Sacred Heart Fathers from Leszczyński Street in Lublin.

In his homily, Fr Filip referred to the richness of the diversity of students, characteristic for the Catholic University of Lublin and the Foundation Home – “We are different, but unique.  We must accept one another and proclaim the Gospel in our own way.  Nothing is more important in a person’s life than faith, which gives strength to follow Christ.  Saints Cyril and Methodius fulfilled their mission by proclaiming the Gospel among the Slavs.  The fruits of their missionary activity are also used by contemporary generations of the Foundation’s scholarship recipients in Lublin.”

After the Eucharist, everyone met in the hall to extend the time of celebration with a traditional treat. During this meeting, Ania Prosiekova (violin) and Tatsiana Ivashkevich (vocals), a student of musicology, shared their artistic abilities with us.
