He was so close to God

It was very eloquent that at the threshold of the third millennium the Pope could pray in the Grotto of the Nativity – says the Archbishop. I remember that he knelt there for a long time. He was certainly very grateful to God for being able to go there. He realized that it was a great responsibility for him to bring Christianity into the third millennium. He wanted to turn our gaze to the Lord God, to this little Christ who is born in Bethlehem, and then die on the cross for our sins.
I can’t even imagine what was going on in his head and heart. He was so close to God. He walked on the stones on which His Son walked. The Archbishop said that he remembered well how the Holy Father signed the Letter to priests for Holy Thursday. He wanted to do it right there, in the Upper Room. And, he said from this place that the Jubilee Year was a special opportunity for them to better understand the mystery that they celebrate every day on the altar.
