FOT0: Henryk Przondziono

Everyone was in agreement and happy that it crossed their minds (part II)

And, so on May 6, 2001, the head of the Catholic Church for the first time crossed the threshold of the mosque – the Omayad Mosque, where the relics of John the Baptist are kept.  This was another very important page in the history of religion.  Not only because of its symbolic dimension in relation to the turbulent past, but above all because of the commitment of Christians and Muslims not to “abuse” more religion to justify hatred or violence, to discover common roots.  That, as has been said, every effort may be made to present these two religions not in opposition, as has been done too often, but in cooperation.

It seemed that this event heralded the beginning of a period of peaceful and creative coexistence.  The Holy Father did not hide the hope that the world, also thanks to the spiritual atmosphere that it owed to the celebration of the Jubilee, will now find a bit of peace.  That it will be possible to achieve lasting and universal peace and at the same time to expand the area of justice…
