He condemned the movements leading to a new form of enslavement

The Holy Father was particularly worried about Latin America. For him it was a continent of hope, hope for the Church, but also for humanity. It was in Latin America that he saw that “structures” not only betrayed the dignity of the human person, but even created new forms of poverty. He was tormented by certain situations and phenomena: widespread illiteracy, poverty in the favelas, huge unemployment, many broken families, and even more so by the fact that salvation was sought in fundamentalist sects and in their illusory promises.
The option for the poor was a constant element of his ministry that is why he never condemned genuine liberation movements. Instead, he condemned the movements leading to a new form of enslavement: that is Marxism, because it used the masses to take power.
He tried to understand the problems in order to show that he, the Pope, loves people who are suffering. And that even if the Church is not able to solve the problem, it can at least give hope, which in such difficult situations is very helpful.
