Already at the beginning the question arises, what such a saint as Karol Wojtyła can mean outside the borders of the Church, outside the circle of believers …
The Word was entrusted to him to preach it, to be known to others. And, he was deeply convinced that he should turn to all people of good will, to the entire human family. And so he did. Thanks to his charism, his credibility as a witness and interpreter of God’s wisdom, he was able to make a great and sometimes decisive contribution to the cause of peace, the coexistence of peoples, nations.
This, too, is a heritage that cannot be entrusted only to historical books. It should be leaven. It should bear fruit. Experience has shown that if the Church is closer to the world, the world is also closer to the Church. At least in recent years, this has strengthened the authority of the Catholic Church and its leader – it has been recognized as a true and universal guide – in the crisis times of humanity.
