At St. John Paul II Family House in Wadowice

The Museum of the Family House of the Holy Father, John Paul II, in Wadowice invites for a virtual walk through the permanent exposition, located in the house at Koscielna Street 7, where Karol Wojtyła was born on May 18, 1920. As of May 8th, due to the upcoming 100th anniversary of the birth of St. John Paul II, Museum will make the entire exhibition available online. – Many people have planned their presence in Wadowice at this special time, and for all of them we would like to allow to virtually visit this place, which is so special for us, Poles – says Magdalena Maślona from the Museum of the Family House of the Holy Father John Paul II in Wadowice.

A modern multimedia narrative exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the life of a man who changed the face of the modern world. At the heart of the Museum is the apartment where the Wojtyła family lived in 1919-1938. The exhibition presents decorative serviette embroidered by Emilia Wojtyła, her silver handbag and gold medallion, original tableware and photographs from the family album. Passing through the 16 zones of the Museum, visitors will get to know Wadowice from the interwar years, the fate of Jews from Wadowice, learn about Kalwaria Zebrzydowska and the great love of John Paul II to the mountains. – Together with Karol we are experiencing the death of his mother and brother, as well as a trip to study in Krakow, war, hard physical work and response to his vocation to the priesthood; we are learning more about Karol Wojtyła – priest, then Bishop and Cardinal, to finally participate in the events from October 16, 1978 – describes Magdalena Maślona. Going through zone related to May 13, 1981, you can see one of the most important items in the museum – the original Browning HP pistol of the 9mm caliber, from which Ali Agca shot John Paul II on the St. Peter’s Square. The Museum of the Family House of the Holy Father, John Paul II in Wadowice, has approximately 250, 000 visitors every year from all over the world. It is one of the most visited museums in Małopolska.
