In Krakow’s Łagiewniki this truth found its special revelation. From this revelation, thanks to the humble ministry of an extraordinary witness – St. Sister Faustina – the message of God’s merciful love is distributed.
…many of my personal memories are associated with this place. I came here especially during the occupation, when I was working in Solvayu which was located nearby. To this day, I remember the road that led from Bork Fałęcki to Dębniki, on which I was walking every day, coming to work for a various shift, wearing wooden shoes. That what people were wearing at that time. How could one imagine that this man in clogs would one day consecrate the Basilica of Divine Mercy in Krakow’s Łagiewniki…?
I am glad that this beautiful church dedicated to God’s Mercy was created. The message of God’s mercy has always been close to me and dear to me. The history, in a way, inscribed this message into the tragic experiences of the Second World War. In these difficult years, it provided a support and it was an inexhaustible source of hope not only for people from Krakow, but for the whole nation. I t was also my personal experience, which I took with me to the Peter’s Capital and which somehow shapes the image of this pontificate.
