Conference about St. John Paul II

On Saturday, February 15, 2020 a conference was held at the John Paul II College in Lublin entitled “The Thought of St. John Paul II on culture and his work.”  The John Paul II Foundation Chapter from Warsaw and the John Paul II Institute of the Catholic University of Lublin organized this event.   Prof. Agnieszka Lekka-Kowalik, director of the John Paul II KUL Institute was the moderator of the conference.

Archbishop Stanisław Budzik, metropolitan of Lublin, started the conference.  The Archbishop emphasized the importance of understanding the subject in question for understanding the life of Karol Wojtyła – priest, bishop and pope, through the prism of his artistic work.

Subsequently, the participants of the meeting heard two speeches, presented by Prof. Mirosława Ołdakowska-Kuflowa, head of the Department of Contemporary Literature at KUL and Prof. Krzysztof Zanussi from Warsaw, world-renowned screenwriter, director, publicist, lecturer and director of the TOR Film Studio.

The view presented by the speakers at the work of Karol Wojtyła/John Paul II became a topic of lively discussion as participants of the meeting started to share their experiences.

To summarize the conference, Mrs. Ewa Bednarkiewicz, president of the Warsaw Chapter of the John Paul II Foundation, thanked the speakers for their participation in the conference and at the same time emphasized the need to constantly deepen knowledge about the life and work of St. John Paul II.

At the end of the meeting, Fr. Jan Strzałka, director of the Foundation’s Home, thanked the organizers, speakers, guests and scholarship recipients of the John Paul II Foundation for their preparation and participation in the conference.
