There was no person with whom he would not like to meet. The Archbishop does not remember any situation when he refused to talk to anyone. Photographs from the meeting with Ali Agca went around the world and were a strong testimony of strength, love and forgiveness for the world; also, for Archbishop Mokrzycki. A dozen years later, John Paul II told him in papal apartments that he learned little from Ali Agca that day and that he was answering his questions with questions about the third Fatima secret. Agca told the Holy Father that this bullet was fatal. He could not understand why the Holy Father survived. There was neither remorse nor regret in it; there was no word “sorry”. He only kept asking about the third Fatima secret.
– Did the Holy Father tell you how he felt about it?
– He did not tell how he felt at the time, but it must have been unpleasant for him. He gave the assassinator his forgiveness, yet he was not able to touch his conscience.
