With the blessing of The Lord, the new John Paul II (Santo Yohanes Paulus II) church was inaugurated by Mgr Julius Mencuccini on Sunday, 9 February 2020. The opening ceremony was attended by around 600 people including the president of JP II foundation, Mrs Lucy Liando, and the head and deputy of local regency. We name the church after our John Paul II Foundation. Located in Lubuk Sabuk, Sanggau, West Kalimantan, the church has a seating capacity of 500 people.
My husband and I donated this piece of land to the parish at the end of 2017, and through donations and other contributions from variety of sources, the construction began in Apr 2019 and completed in Jan 2020.
During the opening Mass, the bishop also gave the sacrament of Confirmation to 101 children and blessed many younger Catholics. Mgr. Mencuccini has been serving his parish in Sanggau for 30 years, and the JP II church is the 902nd that he inaugurates during his period of service. Sanggau is the home of Dayak tribe with majority of the population are Catholics.
Last but not least, we are so blessed to finally be able to present this church to the local community. The people of Lubuk Sabuk are so happy to have their own church. After each Sunday Mass they can gather for a meeting and at the same time to see and talk to their friends. We hope that this church can give many benefits to the local community especially to those who seek God. Our works are still continuing and hopefully, we can open another new church in the near future.
Love in Christ,
Mr. & Mrs. Tannady
