Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I’m very happy that I can regale you! The thirty fifth anniversary of your Foundation is the occasion and this allows me to draw conclusions, as to the work done, and at the same time, to look into the future for the new goals and tasks. My cordial greeting to, starting from the president, Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko to whom I need to say thank you for the words of introduction to this meeting; also, my greetings to Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, who knew the Holy Father John Paul II so well. Your Foundation supports initiatives which are educational, cultural, religious and charitable which were inspired by John Paul II, who will have tomorrow the liturgical feast which we are going to celebrate. Your activities cover many countries, especially in Eastern Europe and so many students received your help and were able to graduate from universities. I encourage you to continue to be active in promotion and support for the young generation, so they could face obstacles in life and be sensitive to the Gospel and spirit of the faith. Education of young people is an investment for the future; let the young people have the hope for the better tomorrow!
Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko welcomes Pope Francis at the 35th Anniversary of the John Paul II Foundation
XXXV Anniversary of the John Paul II Foundation
Friends of the John Paul II Foundation came today to Rome from different countries in order to celebrate the XXXV anniversary of its founding. They would like to present the Holly Father with words of filial devotion and gratitude for the granted gift of meeting with the successor of Saint Peter.
In a distant day of October 16th 1981 John Paul II brought to life our foundation by signing a corresponding decree, thus responding to the deep desire of many believers, scattered around the world, moved by true love for the Church and the Pope, appointed from Poland to the See of Peter. The John Paul II gesture was truly providential. During these 35 years of existence, the Foundation has released abundant fruit for which we do not cease to thank the Lord. Despite the passing years we are still delighted with the presence of many volunteers and benefactors who with admirable zeal support our projects. Through our own institutions and through Associations of Friends, the Foundation undertakes intensive actions in different parts of the world: it promotes the study of the Magisterium of the John Paul II, collects extensive documentation of his long pontificate, helps many pilgrims arriving to Rome, gives scholarships to young people from the East (in majority from countries of the former Soviet Union (Ukraine, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia…) who pursue different fields of study at the Catholic University of Lublin in Poland. The Foundation is being concerned not only about their intellectual side, but also about the spirituality of Christian scholars. Maybe this is a small but very significant contribution to the revival of Catholic intelligentsia in this part of the world, which for many years has suffered from the atheist dictatorship of communism. The Foundation brings together a number of Associations and Friends of the Foundation, which propagate culture and Christian formation in different countries of the world, including: USA, Canada, Mexico, Poland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavian countries, even far away Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
On Sunday, October 9, 2016 the John Paul II Foundation Chapter in Great Britain solemnly celebrated the Papal Day. At noon, at the A. Bobola Church in London a holy mass in the intention of the Foundation was celebrated by the Rector of the PMK, Prelate Stefan Wylężek. The homily was delivered by the Pastor of the Church, Rev. Marek Reczek. Mass was attended by the RP Ambassador prof. Arkady Rzegocki, Management, and members of the Chapter.
After the mass, attendees went to the restaurant “Łowiczanka” for a dinner. President Ewa Szymańska cordially welcomed all: Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, Rector of the PMK, Management, members, and friends of the John Paul II Foundation Chapter in Great Britain. Then, Monsignor Stefan Wylężek led the prayer in the Foundation’s intention and presented a Gold Medal of Merit to a few members of the Chapter. The medal was awarded to: Barbara Bakst, Krystyna Gorczyńska, Eleonora Kwiatek, Grażyna Pietrykowska, Maria Stenzel, dr Andrzej Suchcitz and Bronisława Wadlewska. Not all individuals listed here were able to attend the celebrations, thus some will be awarded at the Christmas Wafer meeting in January 2017.
The Friends of John Paul II Foundation, Washington DC Chapter, held its annual "Wadowice on the Potomac" Banquet at the prestigious Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, VA, on October 1, 2016. Monsignor Anthony Czarnecki was the honoree at this year’s banquet. Each year, the Friends of JP II select a prominent person who has promoted our beloved late Pope John Paul II through his example, teachings and pastoral works. Previous lay and religious honorees have included George Weigel, Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop Vigano, and Congresswoman Barbara Comstock of the Virginia State Legislature. Monsignor Czarnecki was greeted at the banquet and was applauded for his devotion in establishing the first chapter of the Friends of John Paul II Foundation in New England.
