Christmas wafer meetings at the John Paul II Foundation Home in Lublin which are ongoing for many years and gather many extinguished guests and fellowship recipients are part of the beautiful tradition. This year the Christmas Wafer meeting “Opłatek” took place on December 17 in the afternoon. The event began with a Mass which was celebrated by Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk, the Senior Polish Primate. The Mass was concelebrated by Archbishop of Lvov Mieczysław Mokrzycki, personal secretary of St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI; Dr. Hab. Andrzej Kiciński, professor of KUL, Vice-Rector of Students; Fr. Zdzisław Kozioł SCJ, Superior of the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Lublin; Fr. Jan Strzałka, Director of the Home, and priests-fellowship awardees from Belarus, Indonesia, Latvia, and Ukraine. For this beautiful occasion, President of the Warsaw Chapter Mrs. Ewa Bednarkiewicz along with few members of the Chapter came from Warsaw.
At the beginning of the Eucharist, welcome words said Archbishop Stanisław Budzik, of the Archdiocese of Lublin. Archbishop started his speech by recalling the words of the Psalmist: “You God, are my God, earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You my whole being longs for You in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” (Ps. 63) He invited all attendees of the Mass for intense prayers for the deceased layer Maciej Bednarkiewicz, for whom “the advent of His life ended.”
