On May 18, 2016 Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski consecrated the church of the Virgin Mary Star of the New Evangelization and St. John Paul II. “The construction of this church is a continuation of many precious deeds created in Toruń in the past; deeds worthy of admiration and the highest recognition” – underlined in his homily former Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education.
The Eucharist was celebrated by Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski, special envoy of the Holy Father Francis. The Mass was preceded by a solemn procession of history. People in costumes from various historical times enriched the time of prayer and joyful waiting for the Mass.
Guests were greeted by Fr. Tadeusz Rydzyk CSsR, Director of Radio Maryja, who reminded that the date of the ceremony is not accidental. Ninety-six years ago was born St. John Paul II and on May 18, 1944 Polish soldiers have achieved a historic victory in the Battle of Monte Cassino.
- Votive offering of gratitude for St. John Paul II dedicated to the Virgin May Star of the New Evangelization and St. John Paul II – it is His birthday today! However, today is also the anniversary of Monte Cassino. This was the victory which came through Mary as it used to say Cardinal Hlond – emphasized Director of the Toruń’s radio.
Pope Francis’ Apostolic visit to Mexico which ended on February 17th reminded people and local media about St. John Paul II. They admit that although the Argentine Pope won over many people, the memory of Pope-Pole is still alive.
Both, largest newspapers and TV channels, during transmissions from the current visit repeatedly recalled Karol Wojtyła and His visits to this country.
In street inquires and interviews with Mexicans carried out along the route of the Pope’s travel, people often stressed out their strong bond with John Paul II. They reminded that five times He visited their country, tightening ties with Mexicans already during His first apostolic trip in January 1979.
In media, often the titles by which He was described during His life were used: “Pope-Mexican”, “Good Pope”, “Always Faithful.” People often claimed that despite the great popularity of Francis, John Paul II is for Mexicans more charismatic. Salesmen were also cited stating that sales of papal souvenirs were significantly higher during visits of Polish Pope in their country.
With maestro Andrea Bocelli spoke Włodzimierz Rędzioch
Today he is one of the most famous Italians in the world; everyone is delighted with his voice, a statement which is supported by the fact that more than 110 million of his CDs were sold. And he was not supposed to be born – doctors had recommended to his mother to have an abortion as there was a risk that the child would be born disabled. Mrs. Edi did not listen to the doctors and continued this difficult pregnancy, which was further complicated by problems with her health. Thanks to the courageous decision of this Italian woman, on September 22, 1958 Andrea was born. He was born with congenital glaucoma, which affected his eye sight – at the age of 12 he completely lost his sight as a result of a heavy blow to the head during soccer play. Young Tuscan lost his sight, but he did not lose the voice, thanks to which he made an outstanding career and became one of the most famous singers in the world.
Today, Andrea Bocelli has concerts all over the world; everywhere crowds of fans are waiting for him, but when he can, he returns to Lajatico, his home town in Tuscany, which he loves so much. Here is the house where he lives with his family; here he is preparing for each tour and concert, also here he is preparing for the concert scheduled to take place on January 23 of this year in Poland at the Ergo Arena in Gdańsk.
Before his departure to our country maestro Bocelli gave me a special interview in which he talked about his childhood, career, music, faith and relationships with the Popes and especially with John Paul II.
